RNMCB 17/BUCS Fred G. Silva Scholarship

This scholarship was established in October 1984 by the dedicated members of NMCB-17, headquartered at Port Hueneme, California, in memory of the men who have died while members of this battalion. It also stands as a tribute to the late BUCS Fred G. Silva, who best symbolized a true Seabee — “A Seabee is one who cares for his country, community, fellow Seabees and, most of all, his supporting family.”

Endowed Scholarships often honor or memorialize family members, Seabee leaders, NAVFAC units, organizations or corporations.
