Established in 2017 by Art and Noel Fort. While he was an NROTC scholarship student at Auburn, RADM Arthur W. (Art) Fort met his future wife Noel. He was a Civil Engineering student and was commissioned in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps in 1958. His military career included serving as the Aide to Chief of Civil Engineers RADM Peter Corradi in the 1960’s. It was during that assignment that he learned of the SMSA in its infancy from RADM George Reider and then-LT Fred Kelley. RADM Fort was the XO of NMCB 10 in Vietnam and later served as skipper of NMCB 74. He had the distinction of serving as Commander of the Naval Construction Forces of both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. Following his retirement from the Navy, he served in the U.S. Department of State as the Assistant Secretary of State for Administration and directed the construction of U.S. embassies around the world. Art and Noel believe that helping other people is important and use that as a guide for their philanthropy. More importantly, since Art had received scholarship assistance in college, he understands and is committed to supporting educational causes. The Forts recognize the need to help develop the next generation of leaders.
