Established by Captain Fred M. Derr who was one of eight members of the U. S. Naval Academy Class of 1957 commissioned directly into the Civil Engineer Corps upon graduation. CAPT Derr remained on active duty until October 1967, at which time he resigned his regular commission and accepted a reserve commission. CAPT Derr established this scholarship in 1979 in recognition of his promotion to Captain and as a tribute to his Naval Academy class. In civilian life, CAPT Derr is President of Fred Derr and Company, Inc., a highway construction consulting company in Sarasota, Florida.
Endowed Scholarships allow our investors to build a lasting legacy, impacting Seabee children and grandchildren for generations to come. Endowed Scholarships often honor or memorialize family members, Seabee leaders, NAVFAC units, organizations or corporations. Perpetual Named scholarships can be funded at three levels, $60,000, $120,000 and $150,000 and are named by the donor.
