Barbara Noel Tuthill Scholarship: Established by Barbara Tuthill, wife of Captain William Lee Tuthill, for students seeking an education in a medical profession.

Barbara is one of four children and was raised in various communities in New York and New Jersey. Education after high school was an important family goal. Barbara’s initial post high school education was through Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Lewiston Maine, where she became a registered nurse. She then gravitated to Boston, Massachusetts to work and to continue her education. She graduated from Boston College, BS Nursing and Boston University, MPH, attending part time while working full time. She later received her MS, Nursing through UMASS Medical Center. Professionally, she pursued several areas of nursing including Coronary Care and Infection Prevention/Control and Epidemiology in acute care hospitals and later as a consultant. As a Navy Seabee spouse, supporting Lee during his 30 years of service was always an integral and rewarding part of her life. Barbara and Lee have spent many years enjoying sports, especially skiing and long distant boating (sail and trawler). Barbara has always appreciated the opportunities she has had to continue her education and is a strong supporter of assisting students in reaching their goals. It is with great pleasure that this scholarship has been established to assist aspiring students connected to the Seabee community in furthering their education in a medical discipline of their choice.
