Update on covid 19

We as Seabees are a “Can Do” group. Together, we persevere to get the job done, no matter the circumstances. That spirit is unstoppable.

While uncertainty is on the rise with the spread of the corona virus/COVID-19, our commitment to the Seabee Community is unwavering. Thanks to the steadfast support of our members and donors, the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association and Seabee Historical Foundation are here and continue to support our greater Seabee Family today and tomorrow. We are virtually connected and active, continuing to fulfill our missions.

SMSA is closely monitoring the educational system, as well as receiving scholarship applications and preparing to make selections for awards for next school year. We know countless families across the nation will face financial uncertainty. As the nation’s only provider of need-based scholarships exclusively to the children and grandchildren of America’s Seabees and Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers attending accredited colleges and universities, and career and technical (CTE) education programs, we are ready to help. If you know of a college-age student who is a child or grandchild of a Seabee, please encourage them to apply here: https://www.seabee.org/scholarship

SHF is carefully watching the global impact of COVID-19 on active Seabees and the Seabee Community. The U.S. Navy Seabee Museum is temporarily closed to the public until March 31. To prevent congregations of large groups of people, the closure is a precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Museum staff will continue to report to work or telework and be available to assist researchers and the general public with questions at: SeabeeMuseumVisitor@navy.milSeabeeMuseumArchive@navy.mil or 805-982-5165.

Also, SHF continues to proudly preserve, promote and perpetuate the rich heritage of the U.S. Navy Seabee military construction force and Civil Engineer Corps. We are actively putting Seabees in connection around the world, especially while in-person events such as reunions may be postponed. Our ‘Can Do’ Career Connection continues to grow and link Seabees with potential employers and businesses.

Like you, our organizations are facing new challenges. Events will be cancelled or postponed. Fundraising will be negatively impacted. But, our support of the Seabee Community will shine through. We will continue to:

  • Honor Seabee veterans who served before us

  • Tell the story of our legacy

  • Recognize those who are currently serving

  • Educate our future generations by providing scholarships

  • Promote career development

  •  And, serve as the resource to connect all Seabees

We hope that you will help us address the challenges facing our Seabee Community by sharing with us via social media or email your stories and photos of how Seabees demonstrate(d) resilience in the face of uncertainty to motivate and inspire.

But most importantly, while we all exercise safe social distancing, let’s remain in touch. Take the time to reach out to our Seabee Veterans, especially those who are most vulnerable to the pandemic and its second- and third-order effects.  Just like when we wore the uniform, we are in this together.
