Sears Hall Memorial – Port Hueneme, CA

Located behind the Seabee College building at 20th Avenue and Harris Street, Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme, surrounded by the Naval Construction Training Center (NCTC)

Positioned within a gazebo behind the historic Seabee College building, this memorial honors Chief Equipment Operator Robert L. Sears, United States Navy, whose ultimate sacrifice exemplifies the Seabee spirit of service and dedication.

On January 20, 1970, Chief Sears gave his life in the interest of others while in service to his country. Originally placed at Sears Hall in the Los Padres National Forest, this memorial plaque was later transferred and rededicated at its current location on September 15, 2000, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire future generations of Seabees.

Surrounded by NCTC’s instructional buildings, this quiet corner serves as a place of reflection for those training to follow in his footsteps — a reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and “Can Do” spirit that defines the Seabees.
