Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme
This memorial, located alongside the “Grinder” at Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme, honors the service and achievements of U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 9 (NMCB 9).
Commissioned on August 8, 1952, NMCB 9 served until its decommissioning on November 17, 1969. Throughout its distinguished history, NMCB 9 earned multiple accolades recognizing its outstanding contributions to the Naval Construction Force mission:
Navy Unit Commendations in 1964, 1966, and 1967
Peltier Awards in 1960, 1964, and 1966 for excellence within the Seabee community
NMCB 9 provided critical support during the Vietnam War with deployments to Camp Adenir, Camp Tien Sha, and Camp Hoover in Da Nang from 1965 through 1969, playing a vital role in sustaining infrastructure for U.S. forces in-country.
This plaque stands in remembrance of the Seabees of NMCB 9—who exemplified the “Can Do” spirit through every mission, every challenge, and every deployment.
