Bernard J. Obsincs, 91, of Level Green, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, in his home. Bernie was born June 11, 1931, in Duquesne, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Pollock) Obsincs. Bernie graduated from Vocational High Homestead, Class of 1949. He started working for the former Bell Telephone of PA in 1953 as a lineman and then he was promoted to splicer and then to management as a right of way representative for two years. He then became a construction engineer and retired from Verizon in 1990 with 37 years of service. Bernie enlisted in the Navy in 1950 and served in the Navy Seabee Battalions 1, 20, 21 and 23; the 8th Regiment; Support Unit 1; and Naval Construction Brigade 1. He was Command Master Chief of Navy Construction Battalion 21 and Support Unit 1. Bernie retired from the Navy Reserves in 1990 with 40 years of service. He was a member of the White Oak Legion Post 701; US Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X3, Pittsburgh, where he served as vice-commander from 1995 to 1997; and then commander from 1997 to 2017. During this period, he also served as national counselor for the Seabee Veterans of America from 1998 to 2002. Bernie also was a member of the St. Regis Church, Trafford. Bernie is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Fannie (Donchinen) Obsincs; his daughters, Deborah Hice (Jeff) and Michelle Kolesar (Dale); his four grandchildren, Anabelle and Madeline Hice, and Cameron and Ryan Kolesar; and his brother, Greg Obsincs (Chris). Family and friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 Seventh St. (State Rt. 130), Trafford, PA, 412-372-3111. Parting prayers will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Regis Church with Father George Saletrik as celebrant. Entombment with military honors will follow in the New St. Joseph Mausoleum, North Versailles.
