Final Salute

Dempsey Lee Bumpass, of Hendrix, Okla. passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021 at the age of 72. He was born on Friday, Jan. 7, 1949 in Monahans, Texas to Jack Dempsey and Stella Faye (Bullock) Bumpass.
Dempsey married Shirley Clark on February 26, 1968 in Denison, Texas.
He was a resident of Hendrix, Okla. for the past 18 years. He dedicated his life to his military service and his family. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-1988. He spent an entire career serving our country as a Senior Chief Steelworker. He was in the Strike Assault Boat Squadron 20, Gunner at Vietnam and was a part of Vietnam Era Veterans. He was former GMG3/SWCS River Rat and Seabees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Dempsey and Stella Faye (Bullock) Bumpass; wife, Shirley Bumpass; sons, Brian Bumpass, Chris Bumpass and a brother Johnny Frank Bumpass.
Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Mashaw of Hendrix, Okla.; brother, Joel Dean Bumpass and wife Bonnie of Dangerfield, Texas; sisters, Sheryl Darlene Kraft and husband Harry of Woodward, Okla., Jeri Elaine Bumpass of Fort Cobb, Okla.; granddaughter, Makayla Mashaw of Hendrix, Okla.; grandson, Nicholas Bumpass of Gulfport, Miss.; great-grandson, Parker Bumpass of Blue, Okla.; great-granddaughter Sloane Guthrie of Hendrix, Okla., as well as other extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday August 27, 2021 at the Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Okla. with Bro. Rodney Sprayberry officiating. The Patriot Guard will honor Mr. Bumpass with a flag ceremony.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gordon Funeral Home, 221 N. Third Ave. in Durant, Okla.
