Final Salute

Stephen James Payton, 78, of Ashland, Ky died Monday, April 21, 2025 in Ironton, Ohio. He was born February 25, 1947 in Boyd Co., Ky a son of the late Greely and Teresa Payton. He was a retired Pipefitter out of Local 248 Pipefitters, he was a United States Navy veteran. He was a member of the Navy Seabee’s, AmVet, he was an ELK, a lifetime member of the VFW in Huntington, he was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton, Ohio, and he attended Holy Family Catholic Church. He is preceded in death in addition to his parents by his brothers and sisters Gregory, Jeff, Patricia, and Kathy. He is survived by his wife Pamela “Pam” Sexton Payton and a sister-in-law Sandra (David) Sexton-Wu. A mass of christian burial will be conducted at Holy Family Catholic Church Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. by ​​Pastor V. Rev. D. Andrew Canon Garner, KHS with burial to follow in Ky Veterans Cemetery North East. Friends may call at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland from 6 to 9 pm Sunday, April 27, 2025. Military honors to be given at the graveside. Lazear Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to have been entrusted with the care of Mr. Payton.
