Roberto “Bert” Lucillo Villegas, 82, of Virginia Beach, VA, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Bert was born on July 6, 1942, in Batangas, Philippines, the son of Fidel Villegas and Dionesa Lucillo. He grew up in the Philippines and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966. He served as a Storekeeper for 24.5 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer in 1990. After his retirement, Bert worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Services).
Bert married Gloria Q. Armamento on June 19, 1972, in Montclair, NJ. Following a Seabee Five Battalion Dance in Port Hueneme, CA, and looking for something else to do, Bert and his friends heard about a gathering in Oxnard, CA. There, he met Gloria, whose sister was hosting the gathering, and it was love at first sight. Gloria’s mother immediately approved of Bert, even though he was nine years her senior.
Bert was a faithful member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, VA, and St. Ambrose Catholic Church when he visited Emmy in Fairfax, VA. He devoted his life to Jesus by attending mass and reading the Bible daily. He was on the Navy shooting team and a bowling team in the 1980s. Bert was passionate about traveling with Gloria, visiting their children in Northern Virginia, Texas, Colorado, and California, and helping Gloria with their kids’ and grandchildren’s celebrations. Most of all, he helped family and friends in any way possible. He played Tong-Its, a Filipino card game, for over 20 years with his buddies, and loved learning about space.
Bert is survived by his spouse of 52 years Gloria, his five children Emmy (Patrick, Xander, Nathan, Victoria), Juliette (Felix, Dante, Ian, Mathis), Olive (Adam, Isaac, and Audrey), Noel (Regina, Nya, Nyssa, and Noelle), and Ronnie, his sister Benita and his brothers Alejandro and Marcelo, along with his nephews and nieces and extended family in the Philippines, California and Florida.
Visitation will be held May 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA.
