James William DeLisle, Sr., (Jim) 78, of Murrells Inlet, SC, and formerly of East Hartford and Wethersfield, CT, life’s journey ended early morning with his family by his side at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, on Monday, January 27, 2025. James was born on March 7, 1946 in Hartford, CT son of the late Lee and Marie DeLisle.
With great pride, James was a US Navy MCB 58 Veteran and did two tours in Vietnam. He was the owner of The Tobacco Shop on Asylum Street in Hartford for 50 years where customers became friends. In retirement he loved traveling all over the world and walked the Great Wall of China, swam in the South Pacific Ocean, visited Antarctica and rode the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert.
James enjoyed smoking his favorite cigars with friends at Good Fellows and Cigars Under the Stars. He looked forward to the Twin Oaks Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. He was also a founding member of the Navy Seabees Veterans of America South Carolina Island X-3. He was a friend of Bill W. for 32 years.
James is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellyn DeLisle of Murrells Inlet, SC; children, Kimberly Isern (Golbert) of Manchester, CT, James DeLisle, Jr. of Amston, CT and Brian DeLisle (Kristen) of Tolland, CT; grandchildren, Golbert Isern, III, Jovan Isern, Lexi DeLisle and Charliey DeLisle; and great grandchildren, Estevan Isern and Reagan Isern.
There will be a Celebration of Life in Connecticut in the spring.
