James Bernard Thompson Sr. Pennsville, N.J. James Bernard Thompson, Sr., 76, of Pennsville passed away on May 23, 2019. The son of the late William and Margaret (Miller) Thompson, Jim grew up in Camden until the age of 10 when he moved to the Carneys Point area. He attended St. James High School from which he graduated in 1961. Jim served his country starting in the U.S. Navy in 1963, serving two tours in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967 attached to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion #11. He then served several years with the Army Reserve. In 1973, Jim started working for Atlantic City Electric as a boiler operator at the Deepwater Generating Station from which he retired after 25 years. He loved going fishing with his grandchildren, watching all of their sporting events, woodworking and traveling to just about anywhere with his wife Joyce. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Joyce (Bricker) Thompson; his children James B. Thompson, Jr. (Kim) of Pedricktown and Stephanie Argot (Troy) of Carneys Point; his grandchildren Christopher Thompson, Jacob Argot, Jessica Thompson and James Argot; and his sister Marge Baker of Pennsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Fred Thompson. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday night, May 31, 2019 at the Salem County Sportsmen’s Club, 273 Route 40, Carneys Point, NJ 08069. There will be a brief memorial service starting at 6 PM and, after the service, all are encouraged to stay at the club and continue to fellowship and share stories of Jim’s life. Interment will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery, 719 Route 45, Pilesgrove, NJ 08098.
