Leo J. Temple, 97, of Muncy, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at Watsontown Health & Rehab Center.
Born June 28, 1926, in Penn Township, he was a son of Jasper and Edna (Kepner) Temple. He graduated from Hughesville High School in 1944. Immediately following high school, he enlisted with the United States Navy on June 30, 1944, where he served his country as a Shipfitter Third Class with the CB’s during World War II. He served in Iwo Jima and Japan until his honorable discharge on May 31, 1946. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. On July 3, 1948, he married the former June M. Oliver, sharing a wonderful 72 years together until her passing on Sept. 2, 2020.
Leo was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed sharing his talent of making stained glass lamps and hanging lights with friends and family, riding motorcycles with the kids, shooting pool, playing cards, throwing darts and spending time at the cabin with his family in the outdoors. He was previously employed as a supervisor for over 25 years with Sylvania.
He is survived by his son, Steven O. (Joanne) Temple, of Hughesville; granddaughter, Christine “Cricket” Koernig, of Pine City, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandsons, Jim (Stacey) Wertman, of Jamison and Scott (Michelle) Wertman, of Columbia Falls, Manie; a sister, Linda Maxfield of Hughesville and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his late wife, Leo was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Pardoe and brother, Leon Temple.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Dec. 27, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 695 Cemetery Drive, Hughesville, Pa. 17737 with Pastor Jerry L. Uppling, officiating.
A combined accord of American Legion and VFW members will provide Military Honors. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E Water St, Hughesville, PA 17737.
