Harry W. Petersen 72, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on April 5, 1943, he was the son of Harry and Evelyn Petersen. He received a bachelor degree from the University of New Hampshire.Harry proudly served in the US Navy for 26 years, retiring as Senior Chief on May 31, 1992. While in the Navy he was a driver on the US Navy Bobsled team competing throughout Europe and at the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo, Japan. After his retirement from the Navy, Harry worked at Lowe’s as a commercial sales specialist.Harry was a member of the Ballston Spa Lions Club where he served in several offices including President and received many awards. He was also a member of Masonic Temple Warrensburg Lodge #425, American Legion Post 234 of Ballston Spa, Lazy 8’s Radio Controlled Flying Club and Seabees Club of Clifton Park. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was a Nascar fan and always cheered for #48 Jimmy Johnson. Harry liked to travel and was always looking to find out what was on the “other side of the hill.” His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Harry was always willing to lend a hand and would do anything for anyone in need.Harry is survived by his wife Diane, his children Derek Petersen (Lisa) of Ballston Spa and Judith Hillis (James) of Colchester, Vermont; grandchildren Paul, Nora, Julianne, Jordan and Jacob; great grandchildren Clara and Amelia; aunt Ruth Ecklund of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 10:30am Wednesday, May 6 at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, May 5 from 5 to 8pm at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to the Ballston Spa Lions Club or the Wounded Warrior Project.
