He was predeceased by : his parents, Donald Coats and Betty Coats; and his sister Kathy Coats. He is survived by : his wife Deborah Dee Coats; his daughters, Angie Maplethorpe (Cory) and Heather Coats; his grandchildren, James Teeters (Ariel), Haliee Teeters and Nakia Fallecker (Jarrod); his sisters, Karen Zett (Don) and Diane Stultz (Steve); his father-in-law Jim Deines; and his siblings-in-law, Mike Deines and Lori Arel (Ed). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
