Rev Dan Edward Walker, Sr., 93, of Federalsburg, passed away on December 17, 2022, in Seaford, Delaware. He was born on July 21, 1929 in Windsor, SC to the late James and Ruth Pennington Walker.
He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth McDowell Walker as well as siblings Ellen, Oscar, Pearl, Inez and Dude, and his dog Spot.
He is survived by children, Dan E. Walker, Jr. (Carol), Terri Beauchamp (John), Julia Scudder (Bill) and Nancy Robinson (David Shawn) as well as grandchildren, Elizabeth (Aaron) Langley, Joshua Beauchamp, Sr., Danielle Walker, Robert (Ruth) Scudder, Timothy Beauchamp, Nate Robinson, Emma Robinson and great grandchildren Joshua Beauchamp, Jr., Dan E. Walker IV, Mavis Greenwood, and Noelle Scudder, sister-in-law Nancy Narvel and many nieces and nephews.
Rev. Walker served in the United States Navy (1950 – 1955) as a Seabee. After being honorably discharged, he went on to work for the Navy as a civilian in Bainbridge, MD where he met his wife, the love of his life Ruth. He served 19 churches over his decades long ministry and was well loved by all that knew him.
Rev. Walker’s favorite name was Grandpa or Pa and his grandchildren think he was the very best in the world. He loved to cook for his family with favorites being Cheese and Mac, Banana Pudding and Grandpa Love in a Bowl (chipped beef gravy). He had many talents, passions and hobbies, including playing music, woodworking, and the Sunday comics (his favorite being Pickles).
He and his wife square danced with the Whirl-A-Ways Club for many years. He was a faithful Orioles fan, no matter how poorly they played. He had a great sense of humor and when asked by his children and grandchildren what he was going to preach about, he would reply “About 15 minutes”. He loved to laugh and tell stores about his childhood. He was an avid Chinese checkers player since he was a young boy and loved to play with his family.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Framptom Funeral Home with a funeral service to be held Tuesday, December 27 at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Rock Hall Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28. Floral contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
