Nathan Louis Schmitter, of St. Charles, died unexpectedly at home on January 18, 2025, at the age of 59.

Nathan was born on December 16, 1965, the son of Floyd and Linda Schmitter in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Chesaning Union High School, class of 1984. After his graduation, he joined the United States Navy, as a Seabee. He served his country for 20 years before he retired in 2005. During his time in the military, he met the love of his life, Christina Teposo, at the Navy base in the Philippines. They wed on February 7, 1992, and moved to Guam, to start a family shortly after they married in 1992. Nate worked additional years as a shop supervisor at Cignys in Saginaw until full retirement in 2023.

Nate had a passion for cars, especially racing on dirt circle track, and working on classic cars. He also enjoyed watching the Machester United Premier League with his son, Edward, who enjoyed the Manchester F.C. Premier Soccer League. He also enjoyed camping with Christina, and was a member of the American Legion of Chesaning. He was known as a “jokester” and loved poking fun and making people laugh. Above all, spending time with his family meant the most to him.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Christina Schmitter; children, Phyllis (Jarod LaBelle) Schmitter and Patrick Schmitter; parents, Floyd (Virginia) Schmitter; step brothers and sisters, Jeff Mcclean, Patrick (Dawn) Mcclean, Craig (Tracey) Mcclean, Gail (Todd) Smith, Melissa (Tim) Mendyk, Cheryl Watson, Melanie Ayers; brother-in-law, Glenn (Debra) Thornton; sister-in-law, Susan (Mike) Conn; nieces and nephews, Carlene (Dan) Abbey, Kelsey (Caleb) Rittenberg, Nolan Thornton; speical niece and nephew, Michael and Samantha; many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Schmitter; mother, Linda Schmitter, and sister, April Thornton; and nephew, Jarod Thornton

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 10:00am until 1:00pm, with a funeral service at 1:00pm, at McGeehan Funeral Home – St. Charles Chapel, 209 Entrepreneur Dr., St. Charles. Burial with military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery in St. Charles.
