East Lyme – Alan S. Jonason, 78, of Niantic, entered Eternal rest July 2, 2023, at Pendleton Health & Rehabilitation Center, Mystic, after a long battle with dementia and lung cancer. He was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Huntington, N.Y., the son of the late Karl and Sheila Jonason.
Alan faithfully served both his country and community as a police officer in East Lyme. He served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, and then went on to fight in the Vietnam War as part of the Seabees.
He is survived by his sons, Brian Jonason of Niantic, and Alan S. Jonason Jr. of Pittsford, N.Y.; his grandchildren: Joshua, Ayden, Emily Benjamin; and his former wife Laurel Jonason.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic.
