William T. Herbst, Jr., “Bill”, died at home, Sunday, January 15, following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice (Menard) Herbst; a daughter, Jennifer Herbst, and his grandson, Kyle Wronski-Herbst, all of Webster, with whom he lived, and his twin sister, Kathleen Lange and her son Gregory.
Bill was born in Worcester, March 28, 1949, the son of William T. and Margaret (Hall) Herbst, Sr. He grew up in Sutton and graduated from Sutton High School. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy, and served four years with the Seabees in Vietnam. Following his tour of duty, he began work at UPS in Shrewsbury where he spent 35 years, retiring as a district manager in 2004.
Bill greatly enjoyed golfing with friends at area courses. He loved fishing, boating, and woodworking, making model boats and clocks. Most important to him, however, was his family, and the time he spent with them.
Bill was a man with two homes, the water and his family. Each action he took in life was for the sake of his family, and his love and commitment was as bountiful as the sea. His deeds will be held close to his surviving family, and his memory will be cherished always- through love and his sense of humor… along with his stubbornness.
Services will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family. Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville is assisting the family with arrangements. To share a memory or condolence, please visit
