William E. Anderson, 96, of Indiana, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at Beacon Ridge nursing home.

A son of Walter E. and Etta Jane (Lee) Anderson, Bill was born Dec. 30, 1926, in Barnesboro. When his birth mother passed away shortly after his birth, he was raised in Homer City by his mother’s sister, Elsie and Olyn DeVinny, and their two sons, Clarence and Paul.

Bill lived most of his life in this area. He was a long-time member of Crete Presbyterian Church, F&AM Lodge 313 Indiana and was a 50-plus year member of Coudersport Consistory. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific (Okinawa). Bill was retired from FMC, Homer City.

Bill married his wife, Hazel (Suz) Hullihen, July 8, 1947, in Winchester, Va.

He is survived by his four children, William Anderson (Rebecca), Susan Jackson (Richard) and Thomas Anderson (Georgina), all of Indiana, and James Anderson (Lisa), of Graceton; three grandchildren, Shannon Kundla (Devin), of Indiana; Allison Steiner (Jason), of Aberdeen Md.; and Patrick Anderson, of Homer City. Also surviving are his best friend, James R. Anderson, of Indiana, and sister-in-law Carol Hullihen, of Phoenix, Ariz.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Gladys (Stuart) Anderson; wife Hazel (Hullihen) Anderson; brothers Clarence and Paul DeVinny; half-sister Jane McKeehen; and grandson Christopher Anderson.

Funeral arrangements are private and have been entrusted to the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. Memorial donations may be made to Crete Presbyterian Church, 25 Brady Road, Indiana, PA 15701, or Beacon Ridge Nursing Home, 1515 Wayne Ave., Indiana, PA 15701.
