Final Salute

Wayne Chandler, 77, of Athens died July 12, 2022.

A lifelong resident of Athens, Wayne was a son of the late Garnett Troy and Mattie Sue Belle Carter Chandler and was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren and Wiley; sister, Linda and nephews, William Warren “Bro” Chandler, Jr and Wesley Clinton Chandler, Jr. He was a 1963 graduate of Athens High School. Wayne was a retired electrician and member of IBEW Local #613. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Wayne was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Navy as a Seabee from June, 1966 to June, 1968. He was awarded the a National Defense Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia and a Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Graveside services will be Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Richard McFall officiating.

Survivors include his brother and sister in law, Wesley and Lillian Chandler of Watkinsville; sister and brother in law, Mary Ann and Benny Barrett of Athens; sister in law, Jeanette Chandler of Bogart and nieces and nephews, Linda Chandler Meeler, Walter Chandler, Stacey Chandler Davis, Candy Barrett Alington, Xavier Barrett and Celeste Barrett Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
