Victor D. Johnson, age 88, passed away on September 11, 2020 shortly after his beloved wife Ruth A. (Daniels) Johnson, who passed away on August 21, 2020 at the age of 86; after 67 years together.
Ruth was born in Canton, OH on October 12, 1933. She was a McKinley graduate and enjoyed planning the reunions. She retired from J&L Specialties Steel, in Louisville, OH, where she made dear friends that gave her comfort and love until the end of her life. She and her beloved husband Victor were married on April 9, 1953 and were both members of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Ruth enjoyed crossword puzzles and Frank Sinatra music and spending time with her three beloved nieces. She and Victor also shared a love of playing cards together.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her six siblings.
Victor was born in Canton, OH on June 2, 1932. Like his wife he also attended McKinley High School. He served in the US Naval Construction Battalion, known as the Navy “Seabees” during the Korean Conflict, and was proud to have traveled to so many of the reunions with his wife Ruth. He was an Ironworker with the Local 550 and served as Business Agent during the 1970’s. Victor was a life member of the NRA, a long-time member of the Canton McKinley Rifle Club, and member of both the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed many activities including swimming, hunting, fishing, and he later found a passion for golf. He loved to dance with his partner in life, his “Ruthie” and when she passed away, he found it hard to go on without her.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, he is preceded in death by his brother.
The couple is survived by two loving children, Daniel (Laura Stewart-Johnson) Johnson, Denise (Daniel) Duffy; one amazing grandchild, Jennifer (Joshua) Mott; two precious great grandchildren, Imogen Mott, Lachlan Mott; and a lifetime of friends and family who will miss them every day.
According to their wishes they will be cremated and there will be no formal services.
