Vernon C. “Bud” McCormick, 95, of Jackson Avenue, Susquehanna, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 30, 2023, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 12, 1928, in Lapeer, Mich., to the late Glenn F. & Edna (Gow) McCormick, in the late 1930s his family moved to Thompson, Pa., where he attended and graduated from a one-room schoolhouse. He was a decorated United States Navy veteran, serving two separate tours. His first was during WWII where he was a Seabee stationed in the Philippines and his second tour was during the Korean War as a gunners mate armorer aboard the USS Hamul AD-20. After his military service he had a long career as a sheet metal worker. After retiring he enjoyed woodworking in his shop.
Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, the former Catherine Percival; and his only sibling, his sister, Janell Upton.
Surviving are three sons, James, of Susquehanna; Glenn (Linda), of Archbald, Pa.; and Richard, of Susquehanna, Pa.; six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephew.
The family would like to thank Dr. B. Patel and his staff, Dr. D. Preate and his staff at Delta Medix, all the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and especially his personal care giver, Tracy Grennell, for all the care and compassion shown to our father.
In keeping with Bud’s wishes, a graveside service will be held in St. John’s Cemetery on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 10 a.m.
