Timothy “Tim” J. Schultz, 73, longtime Superior resident, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, March 27, 2023 in his home following a multitude of health complications. He was born in Superior, WI on October 10, 1949 to Edward and Joan (Russell) Schultz.
Tim graduated from Cathedral High School in 1967 and enlisted into the United States Navy. He is a Veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served honorably from 1967-1969 aboard the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43). He was the recipient of numerous medals including; Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He also served in the Seabees and the U.S. Coast Guard. Although he didn’t like to talk about Vietnam, you knew he was very proud he served our country with all the Navy items he had around his home and workshop.
Tim grew up in Superior but spent many summers at the resort his grandparents owned on Madeline Island in Bayfield, WI. He had many fond memories of this time, and this is where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth “Beth” Certano, who was waitressing there during the summer months. They wed May 4, 1968 and celebrated 54 years together, raising two children.
Tim was employed by Twin Ports Grocery and Fleming Foods as a semi-driver and mechanic for 30 years. Tim and Beth also owned Schultz’s Sports Bar for over 30 years, where many of his friends would gather and they created a lifetime of memories. Tim was an avid sports fan, he especially loved the Yankees, and every weekend during football, you could find Tim watching Notre Dame or the Packers with his buddies at the bar, who were like family to him. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 346, the Superior Elks Lodge No. 403, and the NRA-National Rifle Association.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Schultz, son Edward (Anne) Schultz, and daughter Patty (Stew) Goldberg, all from Superior. He also left behind four grandchildren he loved dearly; Brittany Goldberg (Garret & Avery Gondik), Foxboro, WI, Brandie Goldberg, Natalie Schultz, and Nathan Schultz, all from Superior; his brother Rusty Schultz, Superior; many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Schultz, and his mother, Joan Schultz, Superior.
