SACO – Thomas Everett Sturgeon, 72, passed away on April 5, 2025, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Tom attended Scarborough schools, and upon graduation in 1970 entered the service, where he proudly served as a Navy Seabee for nine years. Throughout the next years, Tom worked many jobs, including owning his own construction business in California; real estate agent in Florida, Maryland, Virginia and DC; he worked in many capacities in the restaurant business; and most recently worked as a construction project manager in DC and Afghanistan.
Tom was a people-person who established many genuine friendships and connections throughout the years. Before health issues, he was an avid golfer and fondly remembered his time at the Biddeford/Saco Country Club, where he made many life-long friends. He always attended his annual class reunion, where he reconnected with classmates who remembered him as “Chief Spirit,” their mascot at Scarborough High School. (He most enjoyed being Chief Spirit, as it was the cheerleaders who put on his make-up.)
Tom married Sharon Bouchard after high school, and they had three children– his greatest joys — Chad, Amanda (“Mandy”) and Thomas, Jr. (“TJ”). Later in life, he married Mary Lea Clifford.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Thomas William and Bernice Sturgeon, and his brother, Gary. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; his children, Chad and his wife Julie, Mandy and TJ; his grandchildren, Ari, Christopher and Joshua; his sisters, Bonnie Baker and Debbie True; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family at the First Baptist Church in Westbrook.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers at the Maine Medical Center for the extraordinary care, compassion (and patience!) provided to him over the past four weeks. We truly believe a Daisy/Petal award would be appropriate for each and every one of them. A special thanks to Dr. T., who was the best, and all his VA caregivers.
A celebration of Tom’s life will take place later this summer.
If you wish to make a donation in Tom’s memory, any addiction recovery program or the VA were near and dear to his heart
