Scot A. Abercrombie, 64, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Troy Community Hospital. Scot Alan was born March 7, 1959, in Chambersburg, a son to the late Robert and Lois (Hoverter) Abercrombie. He attended Chambersburg Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1977. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served from 1983 – 1986 and then was in the reserves until 1993. Scot was a member of the Ward United Methodist Church and the Canton Moose Lodge 429. He was employed as a Correctional Officer and Plumbing Supervisor at the Allenwood Correctional Facility in Allenwood, PA and most recently as a Correctional Officer at the Franklin County Prison in Chambersburg where he retired from in 2020.
Scot enjoyed working on his house and woodworking. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, rooting for the Steelers and the Pirates as well as watching bowling. In his earlier years he played softball and coached little league for Ralston. Scot possessed a real interest in watching and reading about true crime. He loved visiting the beach and lighthouses. Scot was a man who would never think twice about helping anyone in need. He loved his family passionately and always looked forward to spending time with them. Whether it be around the house relaxing or playing trivia at the Park Hotel, family time was most important to Scot.
Surviving Scot are his children; Shannon (Brooks) Gleckner, Lucas Abercrombie and Quinlan Abercrombie all of Canton, grandson; Jack Gleckner, siblings; Karen (Bob) Downin of Mont Alto, PA., Brian (Amanda) Abercrombie of Chambersburg, Zach (Shirley) Abercrombie of San Angelo, TX, Genevieve (Tom) Kidd of Chambersburg, step-siblings; Kelly Johnson of Wake Forest, NC and Steve Oyler of Chambersburg, his faithful dog; Teddy, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Scot was predeceased by his step-father; Donald Oyler.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 11 am to noon at the North Street Community Church, 177 North Street, Canton, PA 17724. A memorial service to honor Scot’s life will follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in Scot’s loving memory.
