Ravenna – Samuel C. Janka, 97, was called home to be with the love of his life on August 24, 2021 at Vista Veranda in Ravenna, Ohio. He was a lifelong resident of Edinburg Twp. He was born May 21, 1924 in Freedom, Ohio to the late Samuel G. and Rose (Klich) Janka. Mr. Janka retired from ODOT District 4 where he worked as a land surveyor and was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Navy Seabees during WWII and was a life member at the VFW Post 1055, American Legion as well as the Ravenna Elks club. In addition to his parents, he was recently widowed to his wife Susan Janka on January 14, 2021 after 73 years of marriage. He also was preceded in death by his siblings Leonard Janka, Charles Janka, Anthony Janka, Frank Janka, Fred Janka, Elmer Dezort and Florence Lincoln. Survivors include his children Claudia Janka, Sam A. (Ann) Janka and grandchildren Jeremy (Jessica) and Jamie. Great grandchildren Anna and Olivia. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers Venus Mohler, Madison Ryan and Katie Reddinger for giving him the best care while he was still at home. Special thanks to Vista Veranda, Homestead Hospice Care and all the nurses, Allie Fritsch, Pam Switzer and Cheryl Smith that kept dad comfortable and laughing. Extra thanks to nieces Pat Belden, Rosemarie Chalker and Landi White for all the days you spent keeping him company. Calling hours will be Thursday August 26, 2021 from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM funeral service at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Ravenna Chapel.
