San Antonio/Edinburg – Russell Louis Snider, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on a Sunday, November 17, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa to Robert Louis Snider and Luella Lamp Snider. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife; Katheleen Peterschmidt Snider and second wife; Bernice Weise Snider.
Russell is survived by his wife; Laverne Word Snider, children; Carolyn Cooper, Michael (Susana) Miller, Shawn (Edna) Snider, Christopher (Rose) Snider and Richard (Aschley) Snider, sister; Pamela (Lanny) Snider Manley, 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Russell proudly served in the United States Navy during Vietnam and was a member of the SeaBees Battalions. He continued serving in the Navy Reserve for almost 15 years. Russell was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for over 20 years serving and assisting several Fire Departments in the cities of Little York, Texas, San Juan, Texas and Pharr, Texas. He retired from the Texas Department of Corrections. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.
The Snider Family will receive friends today, March 30, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home, 322 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 501 East Kuhn Street in Edinburg. Christian burial with military services under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #7473 with follow to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road in Mission. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of: Russell Louis Snider to charity of your choice. Funeral services have been entrusted to Johnny Garcia, Manager/Funeral Director and staff of Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg.
