Russell Young April 8, 1949 – February 3, 2023
Russell (Rusty) James Young was born on 4-8-49 in Seattle, Washington and ended his voyage with us, passing peacefully at his home in Lake Stevens, Washington, on Friday, 2-3-23. He was a NAVY Seabee, a local 32 metal trades Pipefitter.

In his spare time, Rusty worked forging steel as an amateur blacksmith, making bbq kits, camp fire irons and cooking tools. Rusty had a passion for the black powder era spending time at many trader and trapper rendezvouses. Rusty was well known as the Candyman in the shipyards because he always kept candy in his vest to share with others; and his son has fond memories of pulling candy from his vest when Rusty came home from work. Rusty worked at TODD shipyard and then FOSS. Rusty, who was a marine pipefitter for 35 years and in NAVY for 4 years serving at Biloxi and GITMO. Towards the end of his sailing tour, Rusty grappled with dementia.

Rusty was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Lynn Young, of 31 years; his brother Bobby, his two sisters, Dorothy Liedberg and Christy Beasley.

Rusty is survived by his son, Richard Russell Young; two brothers, Tommy and Pat; a brother-in-law, and numerous neices, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
