Russell Earl Evans, 83, of Lillington, passed away of natural causes Friday (11/20/20) at the Parkview Retirement Center in Sanford, with family by his side.
His family would like to thank all the staff at the Parkview Retirement Center and Amedisys Hospice for the care they gave him.
Russ was born in Webster, Pennsylvania, on July 21, 1937, as the 13th child of George and Bertha Evans. He is survived by a brother, Foster Evans; his loving wife, Virginia Evans; his children, Theresa Hennessy (Tom), Mary Lawson (Dave), Russell Evans (Hope) and Rose Allspach; two stepsons, Brian Knight and Robert Knight; eight grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 15 great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild as well as countless nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school in Western Pennsylvania, Russ served in the U.S. Navy as a part of the Seabee division from 1955-1958. Russ spent the remainder of his life as a residential and commercial contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He was an accomplished artist as well as a talented taxidermist. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
