Roy Alton Lohse, beloved Dad, Husband and Friend passed into the presence of His Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on 1 July, 2023. He was 98 years old. Born on 27 February, 1925 to German Immigrant parents (Max Lohse and Pauline Lotte) living in Elbow Lake, MN; Roy was one of twelve children. His surviving sister, Gladys Lohse Nelson, continues life in Elbow Lake. He answered his Country’s call in 1942 to serve in the newly formed US Navy Seabees in the Philippians and New Guinea during WW2. His military discharge found him in Seattle WA, where many of his brothers and sisters were working in wartime jobs. It was there that Roy gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and began to seek God’s Will. Using the GI Bill, Roy attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC and graduated in 1953 with a BA in Business. He made what became lifelong friends from Asheville while at school. Settling in this area after graduation, Roy was introduced to Colleen Ingram Gordon (deceased 2009) and the couple was wed in 1954. Roy established an industrial paint contracting business (the Imperial Paint Company) and was involved in such important projects as the Thomas Wolfe House renovation and the Thomas Wolfe auditorium in Asheville, as well as many municipal buildings across Western North Carolina. He was also an early member of the Asheville Bible Church where he served as a deacon and elder for decades, retiring from duties in 2017.
He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Lohse (Alexander NC), Anne Lohse Chalvet, and son-in-law, Gerard Chalvet (Crolles, France). He is also survived by 3 grandsons, Samuel (Bethany) Chalvet of Bessemer City, NC, Jonathan and Daniel Chalvet of Salem, VA and one granddaughter Sarah Chalvet of Alexander, NC.
The service for Dad will take place at the Asheville Bible Church 234 Merrimon Ave. Asheville, NC on Friday, July 7th at 10:30 in the morning. There will be a lunch and time of remembering at the church beginning at 11:15. Internment will be at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC. Penland Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pastor Patrick Leahy of the Asheville Bible Church will officiate.
