Funeral Service for Roger Chapman Williams, 74 of Poteau, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Roger was born on September 25, 1949 in Silsbee, Texas to Billie Jo (Lout) Williams and Gordon Ray Williams and passed away on January 11, 2024 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Gordon Roy Williams and Billie Jo (Lout) Williams; Brother Bill Williams; and Sister Anna “Pete” Earley.
Roger voluntarily joined the Navy in 1963, proudly serving his country along side his brother Bill in the Vietnam War, as a SeaBee for 2 tours. Roger was a hard worker and a proud member of the Pipefitters Union. He made a life long career as a pipefitter welder, traveling all over the United States and over seas. He owned a ranch while living in Alabama where he raised quarter horses. He was a member of the Free Masons. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family.
Survivors include his son Gordon “Heith” Williams and wife Kristi of Poteau; Grandson Derrik Heith Williams of Clovis, CA; Great grandson Jensen Heith Williams of Poteau; Numerous other relatives loved ones and friends.
Specials friends include the mother of his son, Linda Garrison who has remained his friend after 23 years of marriage. She has been a great friend and helped care for Roger. Lance and Stephanie Neidecker were both very special to Roger and have selflessly helped take good care and provide a great friendship to Roger.
Pallbearers will be Gary W. Francis, Gary W. Francis II, Lance Neidecker, Matt Earley, Houston Lambert, and Larry Free.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Derrik Williams.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
