Putnam – Robert O. Harris, Sr, affectionately known to most as “Pop”, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, on his beloved farm, surrounded by all those who loved him.
Born on November 16, 1926, he grew up on a small farm in Plainville, MA and enlisted in the Navy (Seabees Naval Construction Battalion Unit), at the age of 17, in 1943 and served most of his time in the South Pacific.
After serving in WW2, he returned to Plainville, MA, his love for farming, and joined the Bricklayers Union, until his retirement after 30 years of service. It was on a family farm that he met his wife, Lois, with whom he recently celebrated 75 years of marriage. He fulfilled his life- long dream of owning a small farm, 22 acres, in Putnam, CT, in 1969, where he enjoyed bringing the old farmhouse, fields and buildings back to life.
His family and friends remember him as a man of principles, with a wonderful sense of humor, who took pride in his very large family and all things in nature.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, siblings and most recently, his son, Allan K. Harris. He is survived by his wife, Lois (Boss) Harris, his sons, Robert Harris, Jr, Daniel Harris, (Meryl), Donald Harris, Beverly Harris Teague (Don), Randall Harris, (Laurie), many grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, spanning over 5 generations. He will be greatly missed by every one of them!
