Robert Edward Jennings
October 25, 1937 – January 9, 2021. Robert Edward Jennings, 83 of Wilton, CT, died suddenly on January 9, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was born on October 25, 1937. A tenth-generation Westport native he and his wife, May, or May-May as she was known to her friends and family, lived in Westport until retiring in 2001 and divided their time between homes in The Thousand Islands region of NY and Eutawville, SC. The son of the late Sereno Jennings (Tina) of Sarasota, FL and Mildred Armstrong of Naples, FL he was predeceased by his twin brother Richard, and a son Robert Jr., along with his wife.
Bob or “Pops” was a retired swimming pool builder before joining Scott/Glen Gate Swimming Pools in the late 1970’s He was also a heavy equipment operator and along with his father, and friend Victor Perkowski, built many of the private roads in Westport, especially those in the Compo Beach area, and developments in Pulaski NY with his forever friend and cousin John Holbrook. Bob was also an Eagle Scout, Post 39 Green’s Farms, something he was always proud of. He graduated from Bullard-Havens Technical High School, Bridgeport, CT and many of his classmates remained lifelong friends. Bob also served nine years stateside as a reservist in the Navy’s construction division, the SeaBee’s, while raising a young family on Jennings Court. Soft-spoken, he would not hurt a creature, unless you were a largemouth bass. He loved the outdoors and fishing.
He is survived by his three children, Peter Jennings and wife Melanie of Wilton, CT; Sharon Landowne and husband Gary of Exeter, NH; Karen Jennings of Fairfield; and former daughter-in-law, Ruth Jennings of Westport. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Katelin Flemming and husband Shawn, Emily Jennings, and Justin Landowne; as well as two great-granddaughters, Sophie and Chelsea Flemming.
The family will receive friends at The Harding Funeral Home, Westport, CT on Tuesday January 12th between 5-7 p.m., face masks and social distancing is required. Private graveside services and Interment will take place on Wednesday 13th at the Greens Farms Upper Cemetery, 71 Hillandale Road, Westport, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Greens Farms Congregation Church.
