Final Salute

Robert “Bob” Costello passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and
grandson Jason. Bob was born and raised in San Francisco and was a proud
second generation San Franciscan.

Bob Costello was a Navy Sea Bee serving during the War in the Pacific. He
returned to San Francisco and became a dedicated and proud member of UA
Local 38 Plumbers & Pipefitters in San Francisco, starting as an apprentice
plumber then moving up to Business Agent, Assistant Business Manager and
onto the International Representative for the Western States and Hawaii. He was
a delegate to the Pipe Trades, the San Francisco Labor Council, the California
Labor Federation as well as numerous positions supporting labor unions. Robert
Costello was also a San Francisco Park and Rec Commissioner as well as
President of the San Francisco PUC (Public Utilities Commission). Robert
continued working until he was 72.

Bob married his wife Marie in 1950, who passed away in 2001. The Costello
family continues to grow and thrive in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bob loved his
family more than anything and was so thrilled to have his grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Bob also loved the ocean and fishing. He was a regular on the
salmon boats in the waters off of the coast. He fished from Alaska to Hawaii.
Bob, along with Joe Mazzola, found and purchased what would become the
Konocti Harbor Inn, a vacation spot much loved by plumbers and their families. A
children’s summer camp, Camp Konocti still exists. Bob and his family loved
Clear Lake so much that he purchased a home near Lower Lake.

Bob is survived by his children Christine [Robert Jewkes], Sharon, Bobby [Ellen]
and Margie [Larry Gisler] and their families. His grandchildren Brenda Galdamez
[Pan DuCoeur], Jason Costello [Heidi], Kelly Costello Durham [Drew], Kristin
Costello, Ashley Bennett, Bobby, Jack and Tess Jewkes, and his great
grandchildren Robert S. Costello, Amanda Correia, Alia Dajani, Luciana Costello,
Pan DuCoeur II, Bailey and Matthew Costello, and Ryan Durham.

There will be a private family service at Duggans Mortuary and he will be interred
at Holy Cross Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions the family will host a Memorial
for a Life Well Lived later this year.
