Final Salute

Rob Mathis, age 52, of Ellsworth, passed on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center due to complications of A.L.S.

Memorial service for Rob will be on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 15, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and one hour prior to the service at church.

Burial will be in Cascade Cemetery, Nelson, Wisconsin.

Rob was born March 22, 1971, to Robert and Rita (Rogowski) Mathis Sr. at River Falls, Wisconsin. He attended Ellsworth Elementary School until the second grade. At that time his family moved to LaCrosse where he attended Logan High School and graduated with the Class of 1989.

While in high school, Rob joined the U.S. Navy where he served for 7 years. Rob served overseas several times, spending 3-4 months at a time building roads, bridges and other construction projects. He spent time in Spain, Greece and Guam. When he completed his time in the Navy, he worked construction in the Twin Cities area, and spent several years working in Milwaukee. After suffering injuries in a construction accident, he pursued a job in retail sales and service.

On April 28, 2006 Rob married Heather Hinzman at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley and lived in Ellsworth.

Rob loved to problem solve and fix machinery, cars and anything else that would challenge his mind (including gutting their former home to remodel it). He also loved to act silly and make people laugh.

Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents; mother Rita; son Jake; and father-in-law Doug Hinzman.

Rob is survived by his wife Heather; children Chandler, Malerie, and Bobby Mathis; his father Bob (Alice) Mathis; sister Theresa (Bob) Cornish; brother Tim (Nichole) Mathis; mother-in-law Kathy Hinzman; brother-in-law Ryan (Lindsay) Hinzman; 7 nephews; many other relatives and friends.
