Richard M. Dozier, 78, passed away on Jan 9, 2025 in Portsmouth, VA. He was born on Oct 10, 1946 in Norfolk, VA to the late Melvin O. Dozier Sr. & Ruby Hall Dozier. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Donald W. Dozier, Robert L. Dozier & Melvin (Buddy) O. Dozier Jr. Richard was a graduate and a Virginia State wrestling champion for Princess Anne High School. He graduated from National Diesel College, East Nashville, TN. Richard joined the Navy Seabees stationed in Okinawa, Vietnam War and joined the Army Reserves. Richard was a mechanic for Montgomery Ward & opened his own Taxi Company, A-1 Cab. Richard loved Nascar races and was pit crew for his 2 brothers racing at Langley for many years. He loved to fish, bowl, Jet Ski, play cards & gardening. He loved his home on Lake Gaston, NC. Richard looked forward to Christmas to spend time with his family and making cookies & favorite coconut pie. He and Janice enjoyed traveling, visiting Vegas countless times and enjoyed cruises all around the world. One of the highlights was visiting Normandy, Germany where his dad stormed the beaches of WWII.

He is survived by wife of 39 years, Janice Kochur Dozier; son, Richard Brian Dozier (Beth) of Virginia Beach; granddaughter, Alexis L. Dozier of Virginia Beach; brother, Ronald W. Dozier (Carolyn) of Virginia Beach; sister, Carolyn Dozier Cotterell of Norfolk, VA; half-sister, Dorothy Mullins of Portsmouth, VA; brother-in-law, John Kochur (Minnie) Tuscan, AZ; and many nieces; nephews,; great nieces; great nephews; and cousins.

A funeral service will be held 11am, Tuesday, Jan 14, 2025 at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4pm till 7pm, Monday, Jan 13, 2025 at the funeral home.

Richard was a pillar of the Dozier family and will be greatly missed.
