Final Salute

Richard “Dick” Keith Dyar, a longtime Colorado Springs resident, went home to be with his Savior January 21, 2021. He was born June 2, 1943 in Rochester, MN to Lester and Avis (Campbell) Dyar.

Dick graduated from Wasson High School in 1962 and began his studies at the University of Northern Colorado. After two years he entered into the US Navy Construction Battalion as a Seabee and ultimately served in Vietnam. Upon his return he married his college sweetheart, Deta Louise Limmer. June 9, 1968, then graduated from UNC in 1970.

He taught cabinet making at Wasson High School until he started a successful carpentry business in Colorado Springs. He was a talented woodworker and many of his family, friends and others in the community still enjoy the fruits of his labor in their homes. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed 4-wheeling over Colorado mountain passes riding dirt bikes, camping and hunting. Over the last few years, he loved watching his grandchildren play lacrosse, baseball and race dirt bikes. He was a wonderful “Papa” and his grandkids loved him dearly. And, he loved to tease those around him from stories of him “courting” his wife-to-be nearly 60 years ago to insisting his hospital aids give him a quarter to draw blood; if he collected all of those quarters, he would have died a millionaire!

He is survived by Deta, his wife of 52 years; his two sons and their wives, Devin & Tiffany of Colorado Springs and Dustin & Annie of Crested Butte, CO; five grandchildren, Kaya, Kasen, Kinley, Ruke and Rori. He is also survived by his brother and wife, Tom & Nancy of Happy Valley, OR and his sister and her husband, Karen & Harry Bliss of Red Lodge, MT.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
