Raymond Edward Dorundo Sr., 98, of Yukon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. He was born May 19, 1925, in Yukon, son of the late George and Anna (Repasky) Dorundo. He graduated from South Huntingdon High School, Class of 1943, where he played football and soccer. He was one of four brothers all of whom enlisted in each of the military branches to serve our country during World War II. Raymond served in the 72nd Naval Construction Battalion the Seabees– in the Pacific Islands, and was ultimately awarded a Bronze Star for his service. All four brothers volunteered to serve our country and each returned home from WWII, Raymond ultimately marrying his loving “pen pal” from home, Barbara Mautino. Ray worked as a union plasterer Local 31 for over 40 years, creating custom plaster molds for specialty renovations of architectural masterpieces for downtown Pittsburgh, buildings such as the Benedum Center, Union Trust Building and Heinz Hall. Throughout his life, he enjoyed baking, cooking including making smoked sausage and specialty meats, gardening, of which his green thumb produced generous harvests of apples, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables. Additionally, he enjoyed listening to country and polka music, and was a great dancer with Barbara enjoying many celebratory events and dancing at the local SNPJ, VFW and American Legion Clubs. Ray was very much an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, especially at his camp in Clearfield County, and fishing on the “Yough” with his friends, family and children. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara (Mautino) Dorundo; son, Raymond E. Dorundo Jr.; daughter, Diane Marsh; grandson, Dane Luciano Marsh; brothers, George Dorundo, Edward Dorundo and Albert Dorundo; and sisters, Mary McClory, Anne Watso and Margaret Vlasak. He is survived by daughter, Georgine Dorundo, of Greensburg; son, Michael (Cindy) Dorundo, of Gibsonia; grandchildren, Eric, Julie, Tara, Jacob, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Michael and Samantha; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Nolan.
