CARLISLE – Raymond C. Bobb, Jr., 96, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at UPMC Carlisle. He was born on January 7, 1928, in Carlisle and was the son of the late Raymond C. Bobb and Florence (Wardecker) Bobb. Raymond was married to the late Joan Fagan Bobb who passed away on December 9, 2020.
Raymond graduated from Carlisle High School with the Class of 1945 and served in the U. S. Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Seabees during WWII. He returned home and graduated in 1950 from Temple University’s College of Engineering & Technology. He worked for John K. Bixler, Reg. Architect for eight years and had 34 years of service before retiring with J. E. Hurley Co. Inc. and Carlisle Builders, Inc. where he was a stockholder and Vice-President in both companies.
Raymond was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, the Building Committee for 35 years and as a Deacon. Raymond was a Past President of the Board and one of the founders of the Christian School at G. B. C. He was a member of the Engineers Society of PA, Past President of the PA State Antiques Assoc., Past Chairman of the PA State Certified Antiques Appraisers Assoc., Past Board member and V. P. of Cumberland County Historical Society, a member of B. S. of A. Executive Board in the Keystone District, served on the Board of Susquehanna Boys Club of PA, former member of One West Penn Board of Directors, Past Pres. of the Todd Home Board of Directors, Past Pres. of Carlisle Rotary Club and served on the Borough of Carlisle Planning Commission. Raymond was also a member of the former Carlisle Hospital Volunteer Services and other Commissions and Advisory Boards. Raymond was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was the last of the”Ridge Street Gang”.
He is survived by three sons, Raymond “Chip” (Deborah Kemper) Bobb III of Carlisle, James Edward (Sally Bixler) Bobb of Shippensburg, and David Arthur (Kathy Craine) Bobb of Harrisburg, one sister Florence Hamlin of Mechanicsburg, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by an infant son David Fagan Bobb, one grandson David Craine Bobb and one sister “DeeDee” Snyder.
A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Pastor Simon O’Mahony officiating. The burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be a reception immediately following the graveside service at the West Pennsboro Fire Company, 20 Park Road, Plainfield, PA.
