Mr. Randy Janson Scott

Date of passing 06/02/2023

Randy Janson Scott, age 55, passed away at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma on Friday, June 2, 2023 after a long fight with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Randy was the third child born to Reed Delano Scott and Roma Cox Scott in Las Vegas, Nevada. Randy attended elementary school in North Las Vegas until the family moved to St. George, Utah in 1978. He graduated from Pine View High School in 1985.

Growing up, Randy was known for his high energy and his love of hunting, mischief, and firearms. These turned out to be lifelong passions for him. The family often joked that they knew law enforcement would be in his future; they just weren’t sure which side of the bars he would end up on. Fortunately, Randy chose to join the Nevada State Highway Patrol.

His first law enforcement assignment was in Tonopah, Nevada, where he met and married Kristine Crawford in 1990. Randy and Kristine had two children together, Eric and Kara. The family relocated to Fallon, Nevada where Randy worked as a parole and probation officer. Randy and Kristine later divorced.

Randy married Michelle Pineda on New Year’s Eve in 2007 which added two stepsons to Randy’s family, Matt and Tyler. Randy had the same love and dedication for them as for his own children.

Additionally, Randy served his country in the Navy Reserves in the Navy Construction Battalion, also known as the Seabees. He honorably completed a tour of duty in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In his free time, Randy could often be found either riding horses or “hogs.” He had a lifelong love for horses and shared a special bond with Jubilee, his beautiful Morgan. He also loved his Harleys and the camaraderie he found with fellow members of the Iron Order motorcycle club where he was fondly known as “Muncher.” Randy participated in a number of cross country rides including Run for the Wall, which honors Vietnam vets.

In August 2021, Randy and Michelle decided to spend their retirement years in Claremore, Oklahoma. Unfortunately, Randy received his cancer diagnosis just a few months later. Family and friends were extremely concerned about him and Michelle facing the diagnosis in a new place without an established support system. However, they were blessed with wonderful neighbors who quickly became dear friends.

Randy leaves behind his wife, Michelle, of Claremore, Oklahoma; his son, Eric (Rosa) of Fallon, Nevada; his daughter, Kara, of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepson, Matthew Pineda of Collinsville, Oklahoma; stepson, Tyler Ferreira of Claremore, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Alye and Kathryn, of Fallon, Nevada. He is also survived by his siblings, Del (Becky) Scott of Fruit Heights, Utah; Julie (Aaron) Jorgensen of Washington, Utah, and Holly (Chad) Burnett of Draper, Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, Reed Scott, his mother, Roma Jones, and his stepfather, Elwin Jones.

Internment services will be held at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Oklahoma on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 12:30 p.m.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to their neighbors, their Iron Order family, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Claremore, the hospice and home health workers, and the many others who supported and cared for Randy and his family during his illness.
