Peter “Pete” Frank Barnes, age 76, of Tecumseh passed away on Monday, August 14th, 2023. He was born November 25th, 1946, in Long Beach, California to Frank and Catherine (Warren) Barnes.
Pete served his country as part of the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion from 1968 to 1974. He served as a Seabee doing tours in Vietnam. In 2001, he retired from Chrysler Proving Grounds in Chelsea, Michigan after 28 years of hard work. Pete and his son, Scott, enjoyed many years racing cars. In addition to racing, Pete loved riding ATV’s and taking trips with his family up north to ride the trails. He enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete loved taking walks with his dog, Champ, tinkering with cars, and working on projects. He was very sociable and liked meeting new people. Anyone who knew him loved him.
Pete is survived by his 2 children, Scott (Dawn) Barnes of Garden City, MI and Penni Jones of Adrian, MI from former wife Rita Barnes. In addition to his children, he is survived by Jason Kendall who is like a son to Pete. Also surviving are his 7 grandchildren, Marissa Barnes, Cody (Terina) Kendall, Jessica Kendall, Dallas (Alicia) Kendall, Aubri Kendall, Samantha Moyer, and Cameron Stone, his 12 great grandchildren and his beloved dog CHAMP!!! Besides his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Barnes and former wife, Rita Barnes.
Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Friday, August 18th, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, MI. Visitation will continue on Saturday, August 19th from 10:00 A.M. until the time of Funeral Service at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Drex Morton will officiate the service. Burial will follow and will be held in the Oakwood Cemetery in Saline. Military Honors will be provided under the auspices of the Washtenaw County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
