Paul R. Houghton (1935–2024): A Legacy of Love and Dedication

Paul R. Houghton, born on November 1, 1935, in Manchester, New Hampshire, was a man of unwavering commitment and kindness. The son of John and Julia (Hartnett) Houghton and the youngest of ten children, his life was marked by service, family, and faith. Paul graduated from Bishop Bradley High School and went on to serve in the US Navy and Seabee Reserves. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5260 and the Legion of 1,000 Men of the Sisters of the Precious Blood. Paul also contributed to his community as a former member of the Diocesan Real Estate Board, President of the O.L.P.H. School PTO, and Memorial High School Booster Club. Professionally, Paul worked as a draftsman in the City of Manchester Engineer’s Office, and in plant management at Sander’s Associates and Computervision Corporation. Later, he retired as a Building Inspector for the City of Manchester. Paul’s greatest joy came from his family. In 1959, he married Marilyn Howe. They were married for nearly 65 years and together they raised seven caring children and welcomed 18 loving grandchildren. Paul instilled in them his dedication to the Catholic Faith and his practical life lessons. He was ever present at their school, church, music, and sports activities. His selflessness knew no bounds. Paul was never one to judge; instead, he embraced forgiveness and compassion. His role as a husband, father, and grandfather was a testament to his character and was inspiring to all who knew him. Paul’s life was a shining example of what it means to be a true role model. May his memory continue to inspire us.

Paul is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marilyn. He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his children Paul and wife Marianne Houghton, Maureen (Houghton) and husband Norm Hamel, Patrick and wife Mary Jo Houghton, Megan (Houghton) and husband John Roukey, Michael and wife Nancy Houghton, Mary (Houghton) and husband Kevin Flaherty, and Margaret (Houghton) and husband Leif Honda. His grandchildren Bridget, Liam, Robert, Mary Kate, Melissa, Sarah, Connor, Griffin, Elizabeth, Katharine, Andrew, William, Lochlan, Nora, Maeve, Finn, Madilyn, and Ailish. Along with cousins, in-law relatives and many, many nieces and nephews.
