Final Salute

Mike Ashenden, age 77 of Tecumseh, formerly of Taylor, MI, passed away peacefully, at home, January 27, 2024.
He was born December 6, 1946 in Detroit, MI, the son of Milton and Florence (McCall) Ashenden.
On March 5, 2005, he married JoAnne (Josephson) Birchmeier. She survives.
Mike was a graduate of Taylor Center High School, Class of 1965.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the SeaBees, during the Vietnam Era, he earned the nickname, “Bull Dog”.
Mike was a self-employed mechanic, owner of Ecorse Auto Repair. He also was owner of a dumping service, “We Pitch You Ditch”, located in Saline, MI. Mike loved everything outdoors, including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and ATV Trail Riding.
In addition to his wife JoAnne, he is survived by his children, Michael Kachinski, Michelle (Michael) Chinavare, Barbara (Billy) Phillips, Amanda (Michael) Hartzog, Trish (Sean) Schrock, Brian (Lynn) Birchmeier, and James (Stephanie) Smith; 16 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren;
brother, Donald Kellar; and his beloved Golden Doodle,”Ash”.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Raylene McLeod.
Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Purse Martinez Funeral Home, Tecumseh, MI.
Military honors will be performed by Tecumseh, MI American Legion Post #34 & Tecumseh VFW Post #4187 Funeral Honors Team.
Burial will take place at Silver Lake Cemetery, Wolverine, Michigan.
Visitation will also take place on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Purse Martinez Funeral Home from
2:00 p.m. until time of funeral service.
