Final Salute

Michael William Murphy, 77, of Fairmont, WV passed away on Monday September 8, 2025, at WVU Medicine JW Ruby Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on April 5, 1948, in Independence, WV the son of the late Leo E. and Mary (Davis) Murphy.

He served his country during the Vietnam Era in the United States Navy. He was a proud USN Seabee. Mike was the owner operator of MWM Excavating and was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren and working on his farm and in the garden. He was loved by many. He collected dozens of friendships and relationships throughout his time here and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years Karen McClain Murphy, his son Jeffrey Marino, grandchildren Haley and Trevor Marino, brothers Jack (RuthAnn) Murphy, Donald (Cheryl) Murphy, sisters Mary Utt and Carol Moreland and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John and Dennis Murphy and his sisters Doris Rapplee and Nancy.

Family and friends can gather at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, on Thursday September 11, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and then Friday September 12, 2025, from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. Pastor Randy Vincent will be officiating, and burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be officiated by the United States Navy and the Marion County Honor Guard.
