Final Salute

In memory of Michael Shibak Jr., a former Pennsylvania state trooper, who passed away unexpectedly after an accident on Nov. 21, 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of service and devotion to his country.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 14, 1946, to the late Adeline Bellon and Michael Shibak Sr., Michael graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1964, and went on to serve two tours in Vietnam as a proud member of the Navy’s Seabees construction battalion.
He is survived by his treasured wife of 53 years, Shirley (née Romiski); lovely daughters, Heather McTague (who endured the loss of her husband Jack McTague) and Heidi Midura; and his beloved dog, Mugsy, with whom he enjoyed taking walks. Also surviving are Michael’s siblings, Andrew (Helen) of Dunmore, Pa. and Mary Edwards of Carbondale, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Karyn Romiski of Pottstown, Pa. and Kathleen Anduze of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; brothers-in-law, Rick, Steve and James Romiski (all of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.); his friend, Robert Jones Jr. (whom he considered like a son); and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends.
Michael was also predeceased by in-laws, Steven and Evelyn Romiski, Donald Romiski Sr., Pat Romiski; and nephews, Scott, Donald and Kevin Romiski.
Michael’s commitment extended beyond his military and law enforcement service of 25 years with the Pennsylvania State-Pocono police station in White Haven, Pa., as he served as an active member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church. His love for the simple pleasures in life was evident in his passion for fishing, a good day at the beach in Ocean City, Md., and the joy he found in detailing his car. A true aficionado of Western movies, Michael could often be found immersed in the tales of the Old West.
Michael’s family would like to express thanks to the doctors and nurses at Geisinger CMC; the Scranton Police and Fire Department; dedicated EMTs; and neighbors; also the Rev. Michael Bealla, Pastor Eric Luczak, and dear friend the Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser for their wonderful care.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of service will forever be etched in our minds.
