Michael Francis Underwood, 62, of Worcester, MA, died unexpectedly at home on July 1, 2022. He was born in Worcester on May 4, 1960. Michael loved life; he had an irresistible smile and an infectious laugh.

He was an excellent athlete and played Jesse Burkett Little League and West Side Babe Ruth baseball and was a competitive member of the St. John’s High School baseball team. Michael graduated from St. John’s High School and attended St. Leo’s College and UMass Amherst. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as a member of the Seabees at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT.

In his younger days, he was a daredevil on the ski slopes, dynamic on the dance floor, and loved to dive off the cliffs in Newport, RI. He was kind, funny, generous and smart. His son Andrew fondly remembers their time together and the teachable moments they shared. Michael was a skilled carpenter and a jack of all trades. He enjoyed reading, watching movies and TV classics, shooting darts, listening to loud Rock ‘n Roll music and spending time with family and friends. He was kind and generous and would have given anyone the shirt off his back.

He was the beloved son of Mary W. Underwood of Exeter, NH, and was predeceased by his father, James J. Underwood. Michael is survived by his son, Andrew Underwood of Worcester, MA. He is also survived by his siblings, brothers David Underwood and his wife Linda of Westborough, MA and John Underwood of Harwich, MA, and sisters Jody Underwood of Warren, RI, Judith Underwood of Harwich, MA and Jamie Hayward and her husband Tom of Newfields, NH. Michael also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 14th from 6PM to 8PM at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 15th at 11AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
