Martin “Marty” Richard Sylwester Obituary

Marty passed away on June 1, 2020, at the age of 72, due to complications from blood cancer.

Martin (Marty) Richard Sylwester was born in Twin Falls, ID in 1948 to Kurt and Dorothy Sylwester. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1962 at St. Paul Lutheran Church-Rost Township. He was the fifth of six children. His father was a parochial school teacher at the Rost church during the 1960’s/70’s. He graduated from Lakefield high school in 1966, along with his future wife, Merle “Jean” Langenberg.

His many jobs in his teenage years included school janitor, farm work, construction, building cabinets.

After graduating from Canby Vo-Tech in 1968 with an Architectural Drafting degree, he served four years as a Navy Seabee, including a tour in Vietnam and several years at Lemoore NAS.

He married his wife in 1969 and they enjoyed their time in CA.

After being discharged, they moved to Bend, OR, and have lived there for 48 years, joined Trinity Lutheran Church where he has been an active member ever since. He owned a home design business for 45 years, continuing to work even until his death as he enjoyed it. His personal mission statement was: “I want to help people have temporary houses and eternal homes.” Their many RV trips took them to 49 states and Canada—enjoyed all of them. Along with RVing, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, RC airplanes, and solving problems.

He is survived by his wife, daughters Tressa and Breana. A son, Byron, preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m. at his Bend church.
