Date of birth 09/21/1932
Date of passing 05/08/2023

Louis Claiborne Perrilliat, 90, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023. A native New Orleanian, Louis was born on Sept 21, 1932, the second child to William Charles Cole Claiborne Perrilliat & Adele Dugue Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ninette Perrilliat Webster. He is survived by his brother WCC Claiborne Perrilliat Jr. (m. Jeanie), Cynthia Jastram Perrilliat (the mother of) his 3 children: son Charles Arsene Perrilliat (m. Leslie), and daughters Marie Louise (Malise) Claiborne Perrilliat and Christine (Tina) Perrilliat Andrews (m. Todd) and 4 grandchildren: Reese, Porter & Cameron Andrews, and William Perrilliat. He was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews and Godfather to a host of God-children. Louis was widely and affectionately known as “Pa” to the generations who adored him. He loved and cherished his children, grandchildren, and his considerable extended family. Louis graduated from Jesuit High School in 1950. He attended Tulane University College (Civil Engineering) and was an active-affiliate of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He served honorably in the United States Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Six (Seabees) from 1954 to 1957. He was a project manager and principal at both Perrilliat-Rickey Construction Company, Inc., and its successor Claiborne Builders, Inc., where he demonstrated his excellence in the delivery of historic restoration and preservation of many notable buildings and projects in New Orleans. After 70 wonderful years in the field of General Building Construction, Louis retired in 2013, at age 81. He was an active member of the Louisiana, Neptune and Juanita Clubs, and several other carnival organizations. He is a former member of the Boston, Recess, Lakeshore clubs, and the Escargot Gourmet Society. He was a life-long parishioner and member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church and served as a eucharistic minister there. In his later years, he became a devoted servant to The Poor Clares nuns of New Orleans. Louis had a life filled with many treasures: family, friends, his faith and the Catholic Church, his House on the Marsh on Bayou Bonfouca in Slidell, LA, and monthly lunches with his Jesuit classmates. Likely, the traits for which his will be forever remembered were his love and passion for food, cooking, and entertaining people. From the early age of 10 he learned from his (maternal) grandmother the secrets of the kitchen. He was a “serious chef” and rarely missed the opportunity to share that skill with family and numerous good friends. For many years he was a volunteer chef for Sunday lunches at the Ozanam Inn. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Jay St. John, the extended staff at Lambeth House and the Guardian Angel Hospice for the love and care which they unfalteringly provided for 9 years. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6367 St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans, on Saturday May 13, 2023, at 11:00AM. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.
